Lighted Display Signs

A friend has a Sony VAIO laptop for me to see because you have trouble viewing. How do I fix this problem?
In the beginning, the screen slowly (very slowly) begins to illuminate the top and spread around without showing anything. After a while the screen shows images of very hilly as sign in the dialog box. Model is: PCG-SRX3F/BD.
sounds like the LCD or the video card is sacked If you have problems even before the computer boot to Windows, then it is indeed a hardware problem, and probably can not not be solved without sending the manufacturer.
