The consideration behind a successful and profitable glass sign doesn't end with the design and manufacturing. How you choose to mount and display these items needs to be done in such a way that it is noticeable while adding to the visual appeal of your business. Bottom line, this increases profits.
Clarity And Readability
The single biggest rule to follow when deciding how to display glass signs is to make sure it can be quickly and easily recognized and read by everyone. Consider using a series of pieces that are all similar to each other and have a similar position so that people can anticipate the location of the business' signage. You will also find they are most effective when they are mounted at eye level so they can hold and attract more attention. Finally, consider the amount of light in an area. Natural lighting makes them easier to read. If there isn't enough sunlight or room lighting reaching the area, use lighting aimed directly at the signage to draw the public's eyes toward the message and make it easier to read. Lastly, select a spot that is different enough in color to make the images stand out.
Decisions Regarding Framing
Framing adds an increased visual presence to glass signs, but it also increases the cost significantly. To get similar results to traditional framing while keeping costs down, consider some alternatives. One idea is to set it onto a decorative shelf that has a groove routed into the top of it to prevent it from slipping. You can then attach the top corners to the wall to prevent it from falling.
Wooden or metal corner brackets are another alternative to full framing. You simply have to set the corners onto the piece and attach the brackets to the wall. If you would like to mount it flat against the wall, you can have the edges rounded off or beveled. Decorative metal studs can then be used to hold it into place. Some decorators will paint a border onto the wall around the piece or paint the area a different color to make the images stand out.
Unique Hanging Methods
Advertising doesn't need to be hung onto the wall in order to get attention. Bistros and small country style stores will set them onto a wood or metal A-frame. Just make sure there are features in place to ensure it doesn't collapse and that the glass can't fall. Have the manufacturer add a set of holes in the top and attach it to a metal holder. This system can then be suspended from the ceiling or wall. Just be sure to take safety into consideration so that it is held snugly and there is no fear of walking into it. Some will also use this medium as the face of a customer service desk, a tabletop, or to cover an entire wall to create a focal point.
Glass signs need to balance visibility with design and safety for advertising that will maximize your profits. With a little creativity, you can do all of this while setting yourself apart from the competition to increase customers and sales.
