To design an online portfolio is best for the site is professional or personal?

I am a (wannabe) and I have a graphic designer portfolio of whitneywyckoff.com online, but I fear that the design is not good enough to be noticed. I think these days it is essential for graphic designers to be able to design for print and especially on the web. I want to redesign my site, but I'm not sure if I should clean and professional and be more of a vehicle to present my work or have fun and cool and the mirror of my personality and be another example of my work. What employers want in general? Professional or staff? How to reconcile the two?
